The Post-War Period of film history occurred during 1946-1959. During this era, television was introduced and took the place of the movies' popularity. The common throughout the films of this period was film noir, where the films were darker and socially critical. Even more so, this era was during the Cold War. Thus, some accused Hollywood of being tied with Communist ideology so the Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) prohibited many actors, directors, and producers that may have been suspected to be associated with Communism.
